Foundation's Charter *
The Foundation will work for the enhancement of the journalistic profession in India. It will be vigilant against attempts by the State and other entities to impair freedom of speech or the media’s ability to enable their readers/viewers/listeners to make informed choices. A key effort will be to sensitise journalists to strike a balance between commercial considerations and journalistic values. It will aspire to evolve a code to guide our professional conduct.
The Foundation will therefore institute fellowships, recognise journalistic excellence through awards and organise debates/seminars on issues impinging on our practice as journalists.
In its endeavour to improve skills, the Foundation will organise training programmes, with a special focus on the underprivileged so that the diversity of society is reflected in our profession. It will help facilitate the work of freelance journalists and strive to create a fund for the protection of journalists.
The long-term objective will be to set up chapters in all state capitals. To promote understanding between nations, the Foundation will encourage exchange of journalists, especially in the neighbourhood.
